Biographical / Historical

Baton Rouge Advocates for Safe Streets (BRASS) was first organized in 2006 to advocate bicycle safety and favorable bicycle laws as well as health and bicycling. In 2010 the organization held the first annual Velo Louisiane Bicycle Festival Weekend. BRASS also has a close relationship with the Capital Region Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee and has worked with the city-parish government on projects to add and improve bike paths in the area. Their bike friendly business initiative encourages local businesses to provide bicycling amenities such as bike racks and other benefits to customers or employees who arrive by bike. As of 2012 the organization became known as Bike Baton Rouge (BikeBR). BikeBR continues to host events and publish information on easy biking paths and bike safety.
