Biographical / Historical
The Altrusa community believes that everyone is able to make a positive difference to the world around them. That each person can each volunteer thier time, or donate thier money, towards worthy causes. Individual efforts are small, but they matter.
The Altrusa community believes that people can achieve even more when they work together. For over 100 years Altrusa clubs have collected members from varying occupations and lifestyles, all sharing an interest in community service.
Memebers of the Altrusa Club enjoy the friendship, fun and satisfaction that comes from working together for the benefit of others. Each club develops a program that is tailored to local needs, undertaking a variety of hands-on service and fundraising projects each year. One of the shared goals as an organization is to improve literacy, which the group believes is the key to opportunity.
Through Altrusa activities they develop leadership skills in a supportive environment. The Club welcomes new ideas and aims to provide enough flexibility so that thier members can give their time in a way that works for them.
Altrusa is a network of clubs that each serve their community. Our clubs are free to determine their own service projects and fundraising efforts, tailored to local needs.
The Baton Rouge Chapter is part of District 4 which covers Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.
