altBR is a podcast created by Jacob Jolibois an Abe Felix. The first episode was released in August of 2016 with a quick introduction of the purpose of this podcast and information about the podcast creators. According to the creators, altBR “is a podcast with a social mission to make our city better.” Each episode focuses on a person(s) in the Baton Rouge community that is in some way contributing to the betterment of the city. As of January 12, 2018 they have completed 77 episodes. Episodes are recorded monthly and released weekly.
Jacob Jolibois is a Baton Rouge native born in 1993. He graduated from Louisiana College in Alexandria with two degrees in business. He began his professional life as a commercial photographer but eventually moved into marketing. He is currently the director of digital strategy for MESH, a local marketing firm.
Abe Felix is also a Baton Rouge native born in 1987/88. Felix is an independent film maker who graduated from LSU with a degree in broadcast journalism. He has also filmed commercials and shorts for local organizations and interest groups. His directorial debut will be released in 2018. The short, Jane, highlights the multicultural experience in America.
More recently, Jolibois and Abe have created a platform through which podcasts can be published and released called parachute.fm. Currently, altBR and Drawl, a podcast that takes a look at Southern poetry are the only two podcasts being featured but there are hopes to host more.
