Biographical / Historical
Sometime in the early 1980’s the Baton Rouge Room Archives received a donation of 1,379 reels of news film from Station WAFB,Baton Rouge’s oldest television station, which began broadcasting on April 19, 1953. The films are 16mm magnetic polyester 6 inch film reels. Also donated at this time were script outlines dating from November 5, 1976 to Novmeber 30, 1977. There was no documentation of content save for the broadcast outlines and masking tape labels with dates on some of the canisters. The films were stored in rusting metal canisters and sat untouched for over 25 years. There was no way to determine the content of the film nor was there any provenance or paper trail.
