Biographical / Historical

The Mystic Krewe of Apollo is an all-male non-profit organization whose main function is to stage an annual Bal Masque. It is not a politically affiliated organization nor does it take a stand on any governmental issues. The club’s books and roster are not made available to the public or to the general membership.

Apollo is governed by a board of directors that meets monthly. These meetings are open to the general membership. Members pay dues which entitles them to attend all private functions of the club as well as a table to the annual Bal Masque.

The Baton Rouge Mystic Krewe of Apollo grew out of the Lafayette Krewe (the first Apollo Krewe was out of New Orleans, since disbanded) in 1980. Founding member, Larry Fremin built a board of directors and held the first annual Bal Masque of the Mystic Krewe of Apollo, Baton Rouge in 1981, writing by-laws and a constitution. From the beginning the Krewe adhered to the strict traditions of the Mardi Gras Bal Masque, deciding on an annual theme, electing a court, having costumes (chosen by the captain) and doubloons made, etc.
